After selling thousands of iphones to many different customers I have seen that many need some help getting started using the iphone.  I have even seen some people that have no idea how to get their apps and many other basic functions setup.

So here is a quick guide with 3 tips everyone should know about getting started using the iphone.

1. How to fix it when it freezes up.  Yes even the “fool-proof” apple interface can sometimes get bogged down and have some trouble and in this case with most phones you would simply remove the battery and allow the phone to restart.  In the iphone’s case however the battery is sealed and a “soft-reset” can easily be performed by following this easy step.

-Simply hold down the top power button and the home button at the same time for around 10-12 seconds until a white apple logo appears in the center of the phone.

-After this logo appears release both buttons and your iphone will restart.  This will fix probably 95% of all glitches the iphone ever has and is good to do anyway from time to time.

2.  Syncing with your computer.  Yes another basic, but after seeing countless people lose all of their info, because they never went to the trouble to sync I felt it should be mentioned.  What is “Syncing”?  It is simply connecting your iphone to your mac or pc and backing up all info that is on the phone.  This is done with itunes and to get started just download itunes to your computer then use your USB cable to plug up and follow the setup.  You can backup your contacts, calender, photos, videos, apps, music, and more.  The iphone will save NOTHING to your sim card so do your self a favor and do a back up at least once a week.

3. How to use the iphone when traveling internationally.

The iphone is a wonderful device that has many great features like build in GPS for travelers, but a quick look at the price of international data usage should make one think twice about taking advantage of these features.  The iphone even comes pre-set to turn off data connection when roaming.  If you would like to use your iphone and check your email, use apps, etc. abroad here is the easy and FREE way to do so.

1.go to settings > airplane mode
2. turn air plane mode “on” (this will disconnect all calling and network usage.
3. turn wifi “on” and search for an open network.

Sounds simple and it really is.  By placing the phone into network mode you can make sure that you will not connect to the local network and rack up charges yet you can still check your email and do everything you need to do free of charge.

The iphone is a powerful device that can do so much more but hopefully these tips will help even the novice user get started quickly.
